1. Strengthening of PLHIV Self Help Network

Manur, Pappakudi & Melaneelithanallur
With the aim of enhancement of standard of living of PLHA and their families members and prevention of STI & HIV/AIDS, Arumbugal Trust implemented this program in Manur and Pappakudi blocks of Tirunelveli District since 2007. Based on the Need this project was extended in Melaneelithanallur Block from April 2009. This program was successfully executed in the year 2010 -2011,with the support of BMZ/Malteser International and coordinated by Pro-vision Scheme.

Prevention, care and support and advocacy were the major activities and also formation of PLHIV Support groups at block and district level (Nellai sutram) were the effectual activities carried out in this project.

With the aim to reduce stigma and discrimination and HIV/AIDS transmission among the target community HIV/AIDs, knowledge was given through BCC activities by our staffs, The activities focused one to one ,one to group, SHG trainings, Adolescent boys and girls training, school health program, life skill education sessions to the HIV orphan and vulnerable children, poster exhibition, Street Theatre etc. By these trainings Arumbugal sensitized the following categories of the society about HIV/AIDS Prevention.

2. Care and Support activities done under this program in 2010 – 2011

Under the home based care activities, counselors and nurses provided needy care to the existing and newly identified PLHIV. Family members of the PLHIV are also trained on providing care to the PLHIV at home. The needy PLHIV were referred to the medical care and nutritional support. Eligible person received IGP support and linked with government programmes.

Special / important programs done in 2010 - 2011
Under this program various special programs were conducted. Cultural awareness program was conducted in 25 villages and nearly 10000 people gained awareness through these programs, As a result the target people perceived their risk behavior.

3. Nellai Sutram

In this project strengthening of the support group and Block level support groups are the main objective. In three blocks 17 support groups are actively functioning with 188 members. The role of the support group is creating psychological strength to the PLHIV and created savings habits among PLHIV. The support groups act as a experience sharing forum and Indentifies the local problems and advocacy and lobby for the issues.

After advocacy with Bankers meeting 14 support groups received Rs.60000/- as revolving fund and from that Rs.10000/- is the subsidy from Tamilnadu mahalirthittam. In total the support group members are with good psychological health and confident. These Programm were supported, monitored and guided by Mr.Johnsonraj and his team Pro-Vision Nagercoil.
