Gulf of Mannar

Eco development is one of the major focus of Arumbugal Trust. With the support of forest department, Government of Tamil Nadu, Arumbugal has effectively carried out its various activities in the year 2010-2011 focusing on conducting PRA program all over Tamil Nadu.

1.Gulf of Mannar Biosphere Reserve Trust (GOMBRT)

The Gulf of Mannar region from Rameswaram to Kanyakumari along the Indian coast is a jewel on the crown of marine wealth of our nation. Equal are the forces and threats jeopardizing the health and well being of this precious gem and if not curbed and controlled, may dislodge the jewel from crown.

The current status of coastal and marine biodiversity and the profile and plethora of problems that engulfs it, has to be understand by all stakeholders, who in one capacity or other can be able to help in reversing the trend provided they are sensitized and a real concern for care and conservation action and management is imbibed by them.

To fulfill this objective of this GOMBRT of forest department Arumbugal as an NGO Partner has involved in various activities;

2.Wild Life Sanctuary - Nagapattinam

Arumbugal Trust has effectively implemented this program in the year 2010-2011 with the support of the wild life warden, Nagapattinam, Tamil Nadu forest department. Arumbugal Trust has carried out various activities related to Eco conservation in 36 villages of Tiruvaroor, Tanjavur and Nagapattinam district for the betterment of Karaivetti, Vaduvoor, Udayamarthandapuram and kodaikanal wild life sanctuary and adjoining areas bay of Bengal.

Mile Stones

  1. With the involvement of local people Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) was conducted for further effectual use and future planning of their available resources in 5 villages of Tiruvarur District and prepared Micro plan for the villages and submitted to the forest department.
  2. For the sustainability and effective function, EDC trainings were provided to the leaders, executives and members of EDC in 35 villages of Tiruvarur, Tanjavoor and Nagai district were given on The inputs were leadership qualities, capacity building, documentation, ledger maintenance etc.

3.National Environment awareness Campaign (NEAC)

Ministry of environment, Government of India and Peace Trust, Dindugal, Tamil Nadu sponsored the Program under National Environmental awareness campaign on the topic 'Biodiversity Conservation'. The program was implemented by Arumbugal Trust in collaboration with Paramakalyani Arts & Science collage, Alwarkurichi, Tirunelveli District, as the college is located adjacent to Western ghats.

Arumbugal Trust took the initiative of sensitizing the NSS and NCC students of the college on Bio-diversity conservation. Around 1500 students were oriented with one day workshop including awareness, distribution of pamphlets and distribution of tree saplings. This Programme was Honoured and Welcomed by Mr.V.Ganapathy Sankarakrishnan Co-Ordinator NSS and Mr.M.Sundaram Principal in Sri. Paramakalyani Arts & Science College.
