Prevention Program

1. GFATM R II - Prevention of Parents to child Transmission (PPTCT)

This program was effectively implemented during June 2010 to March -2011 by ILFS, Chennai. The goal of this program is prevention HIV among young people. Especially among positive women or women whose husbands are positive, transmissions of HIV infection from mother to her infant is possible and care and support for HIV affected mother-babies/couple was carried out in the target areas with the support of Tamil Nadu AIDS control society (TANSACS – GFATM R-II). The Program is on going in Tirunelveli Corporation and 13 Blocks of Tirunelveli district. This Programme is linked with 28 Integrated Counseling and Testing Centers. This Programme was monitored by Mr.Prathep ILFS from Chennai.

2. District Resource Centre (DRC)

With the guidance and support of Tamil Nadu Voluntary Health Association, Chennai, Arumbugal Trust is functioning as a District Resource centre for Tirunelveli Since 2000. Mrs.V.Latha Mathivanan, Director of Arumbugal Trust is the District convener of District Resource Centre. In the year 2010 -2011 various activities were accomplished by DRC.
The details are as follows:
  • District Level survey was conducted on Advocating implementation of Tabacco Act. 150 individuals were involved in this survey and the details were collected through opinion poll, situation analysis for stake holders and retailer.
  • Social exclusion follow up campaign was conducted. 21 staff from 11 member NGO’s participated and they assured to make linkages socialy excluded people with relevant government scheme.
  • World AIDS Day was observed cultural awareness program was conducted in 10 villages. Through this program written information on HIV/AIDS was distributed to more than 15000 people.
  • To build capacity among members of NGO’s as a DRC, Arumbugal jointly created opportunities with christian Appeal fund. Training was imparted on proposal writing, case study preparation, trainer of trainees becoming an evaluator etc ..
